I’m so excited to come to SLC on Wednesday!! It’s supposed to be nicer there than here (Annapolis-ish) but then get COLD on Sunday, the day I have free. Any recommendations for how to occupy my time on a freezing cold Sunday in SLC?
OOF, we're supposed to have a winter storm rolling in on Monday--mostly rain in the valley but snow at night, and it is gonna get colder. The Natural History Museum is incredible--so gorgeous, nestled right up against the mountains. (It's open 10 AM - 5 PM, you'll find many things are closed on Sunday though, because Mormons.)
The Loving Living Planet Aquarium in Draper (30 minutes south) is also lovely, but it will be TEEMING with children on a Sunday. However, if you go early (opens at 10 AM) it will be less busy--after church is when things start picking up. Still, I'd go Natural History Museum first.
The big mall downtown (City Creek) is closed on Sunday, sadly, because it's a pretty walk through downtown. But the Gateway is open! That's an outdoor mall in downtown, but makes for some pretty strolling, shopping, dining, and art exhibits.
I think if you wake up, go for a walk or hit a gym, brunch, then visit the History Museum, you've got a good morning/afternoon. Also, if you can bundle up, the foothill trails are dry right now (muddy, but in the morning when it's cold it's firm) and you can get a good but easy hike in Millcreek Canyon (you can ping me for trails if this is of interest).
I'd not try to venture up either of our canyons in the morning--you'll be jammed in with traffic from all the skiiers/snowboarders. But if you wanted to do a scenic drive up Big or Little and you leave around noon, you can probably get up and down in an hour.

My flight leaves at 8 am on Monday, so hopefully I’ll get out in time. Thank you for the recommendations!
