SPEED ROUND, as I leave for book tour on Sunday! Books, TV shows, products, you name it, and nothing (?) in the Kill section because I'M IN A GOOD MOOD

This is my weekly series for subscribers only, where I’ll share things that caught my eye this week in a fun and flirty way (kiss), a sustainable way (marry), or a not-so-good way (kill). And yes, this trendy game is technically “f***, marry, or kill” but we run a family-friendly-ish show around here.

Kiss (things I like right now)

I have been reading a LOT, probably because (a) I’ve had oodles of hiking and paddleboard time, which always includes an hour of reading (my Kindle is water resistant!), (b) I’ve found some bangers on Kindle Unlimited, and (c) I’m running and walking a lot these days, which is prime audiobook time. I’ll share four books today!

Middle of the Night, Riley Sager (←read)

This book was very good. Spooky as hell in parts, with a ghostly element I loved. Twists and turns, one after another, one of which made me gasp! Plus an immensely likable protagonist, and compelling juxtapositions in storytelling between “then” and “now.” If you like your beach reads a little on the creepy side, this is it.

A Better World, Sarah Langan (←read)

This book was weird, and I liked it. In a not-so-unrealistic dystopian future, Dr. Linda Farmer and her family jump at the chance to start over in the protected haven of Plymouth Valley. Then, things get weird, like I said. It’s dark but funny, just the right amount of outrageous, and features a deeply relatable family facing deeply relatable challenges. (Except for the really weird parts.) What’s not to like?

Popbins trash bags (←linked)

I found these randomly. They’re a little box of small trash bags that pop up automatically, one after the other, like tissues? You stick the box to the bottom of your trash bin, pull up a bag, fold it over, and when it’s full—VOILA, a new one pops up automatically. I love them, they’re brilliant, a bag of 30 is like $9.

Look how inconspicuous this is! It’s not even a real outlet, it’s just stuck to my wall.

This electrical outlet extender (←linked)

I told you, today is random. I was looking for some kind of extender for my living room, so we could all charge our devices while watching a movie or playing a game. The trouble is, one outlet is directly behind the couch (not convenient), and the other is on the other side of the room, requiring an ugly extension cord. Then I found this! It plugs in behind the couch, has a long extension cord that’s easy to tuck away, and attaches to the wall with sticky tape. It looks so much like a regular outlet that my husband was like, “Uh, when did we rewire the living room?” I’ve plugged in three extra-long charging cords, and now we can all charge clutter-free.
