Kiss, Marry or Kill: 41
The eleventy-star book I want to crawl inside; a sunscreen pro tip + a running hack; THE snoring solution (I don't say this lightly); buy a house they said, it'll be fun they said
This is my weekly series for subscribers only, where I’ll share things that caught my eye this week in a fun and flirty way (kiss), a sustainable way (marry), or a not-so-good way (kill). And yes, this trendy game is technically “f***, marry, or kill” but we run a family-friendly-ish show around here.
Kiss (things I like right now)
Glass Girls, Danie Shokoohi (←audiobook)
(TW: child abuse) This really belongs in MARRY as it’s now one of my FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME, but I want everyone to know about it, so here we are. Glass Girls is a mash-up of magic and witchcraft X ghosts and hauntings X family dynamics. It snagged me immediately, and wrenched its way into my center. I can’t remember the last time I felt for a character so deeply, and cared so very much about the ending written for them. (Maybe Wavy from All the Ugly and Wonderful Things?) It was a hard read, and would be especially heartbreaking if your mother wasn’t good to you. (Mine was, very much so, and it was still hard.) Still, I plowed through it so fast because it was so good, and I would give anything to hear it again for the first time. I know I’ll be coming back for a slower, more tender read/listen soon. (Would I have loved Glass Girls this much had I read it with my eyeballs? In this case, YES. You cannot go wrong with either medium.)
