Book Review: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
Everyone should read Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. If you wonder what therapy is like. If you’ve recently started therapy. If you’ve been doing therapy for the better part of 25 years (me). We ALL need to eavesdrop here, because this book on therapy by a therapist is unique.
First, Lori goes DEEP into her own therapy here, and it’s authentic AF. (I have never felt better about being a hot mess on a therapist’s couch as I have reading this book.) More than that, though, she’s juxtaposed her story with the therapy she’s providing her clients, so we can see how it goes from both sides of the room.
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is relatable. It’s hilarious. (No one loves hearing a therapist drop an F-bomb more than me.) More than that, it’s raw and real, and offers us hope that with time, patience, self-awareness, and bravery, we CAN change our stories... and that we ALL need help doing that from time to time.
