Murder Theory is the third book in The Naturalist 4-part series, and I devoured it in two days in Mexico. The main character, Dr. Theo Cray, is everything I never knew I needed in a protagonist. He's brilliant, endearingly socially awkward, and says and does things we all wish we could say and do. (And in this book especially, some things that will make you say, "No, that's ****ed up.") Think Dr. Spencer Reid meets Dwight Schrute meets House MD... with a splash of Dexter. He's unlike anyone I've met in a book before, and his expertise (computational biology) was surprisingly thrilling and engaging.
The entire series is highly recommended 10/10 for its intellectual stimulation, science nerd satisfaction, thrilling pace, and v twisted plot lines. The fourth book comes out in October 2019 and I’ve already pre-ordered it. (But hey Mayne, what does it take for a girl to get an advance copy?)
Here are links to the series, in order: The Naturalist, Looking Glass, Murder Theory, Dark Pattern
