Having come from the morbidly obese BMI category, down to the overweight category this is a great reminder. I’ve come a long way, with a little farther to go. But I’m ready to build muscle and I can start where I’m most comfortable, on a rowing machine. Full body workouts, here I come.

I’ll add - if you have flexibility (I get that not everyone does), play around with different days or times at your gym. I’ve discovered that the 5 pm crowd at my gym is mainly athletes and gym bros, and while they’re all nice, I feel intimidated by that energy. But it feels totally different (and more my speed) with the morning crew at 8 am.

This is so helpful. Thank you. Overcoming one's self-consciousness is essential to pursuing a better life. I'm getting ready to start physical therapy in order to fully recover from some surgery I had a few months ago and even though I'm a veteran of yoga classes (before the surgery), I'm still feeling insecure about how I'll do in PT. This post is the approach I'll take.

I'm so glad to hear it! I've had to walk back into the gym as a beginner a number of times, after giving birth, after my concussion... it comes back fast and post-PT you'll be that much stronger in your body and confidence. XO

Love this. I have always wished you'd share some of your favorite exercises in a list (and if you've share them...I must have missed them.) I've loved watching your gym workouts ever since your "Year of Strong and Bendy."

My "favorite" exercises change with the season and my goals, but I can think about a list always on rotation!
