I am the POSTER CHILD for morning workouts! Here are three tips straight from psychology and habit research to get you out of bed and moving your body.
I also think it is important to be mindful of what you are eating and drinking the night before a morning workout. Alcohol can make you extra groggy in the morning and dehydrated. Some foods may feel too heavy. I love my morning workouts because they set me up for a clear head as I start my work day.
Such a good tip! Alcohol at night is an absolute no-go if you’re starting a morning workout routine. Same with a big meal before bed—if you don’t sleep well you’ll never want to get up
I have two tricks - sometimes I imagine SOMEONE is telling me I can't go to the gym in the morning, and that motivates me (whether it is defying the direct order or proving them wrong). The other I use is I go to the gym for a very short time and just do a little. I always feel good about it.
You must be a Gretchen Rubin Rebel 😂 this is a great hack for rebels, truly! And yes, sometimes I get in there and just feel like doing 20 minutes, but I’m always happy I did those 20 minutes
Here I reading this in the morning instead of getting out of bed. Haha. But! This is the inspiration l needed to get back to my morning workouts. I agree with it all, they more I snooze the more chance I don’t have time to do the morning workout anymore, then I bargain with myself that I’ll do it later in the day but that rarely happens because of life.
So I’d add, if mornings do work best for you, don’t bargain with yourself. Remind yourself how good it feels to get the morning workout done. And have a small snack handy to have a bite of (or all of). I like having that handy so that I’m not running on empty the whole workout (it needs to be small for me pre workout and then a bigger meal after).
Love this! Morning workouts are also so helpful for me and my mental health to get that energy out and start the day with a clear head! This also allows me to show up better for my son! 🤍

The snack is a good tip, especially if it’s something you really like and can look forward to in the morning 👏

I totally agree. I physically move through stress with my workout which helps me be more calm and grounded when I start the rest of my day
Oh how I love the set your alarm for the actual time. Cuts out so much mental nonsense in the wee early morning hours.
Yes! This hack has been helpful for years 🎉
