Kiss, Marry or Kill: The worst books of 2022
Everyone loved them. I did not. (Obviously, this is "Kill.")
I only share 5-star, glowing reviews on Instagram. It’s not that I exaggerate about how much I like the book (I’d never do that), it’s that I won’t share a book recommendation publicly unless it’s a home run.
As an author, I know art is subjective. If I didn’t like a book, it’s not about the book—it’s just my lamp. But because I have a large platform and I’m well-known for my book recommendations, a negative review from me could have an impact on their book sales, and that doesn’t feel fair or kind.
However, I read a lot, and it’s unrealistic to think I liked all the books I read last year. Some were so forgettable, I couldn’t tell you the titles or the plot five minutes after I finished them. Some were so-so, with some redeeming features but not worth recommending. But there were five books that were incredibly popular in 2022 that I either didn’t finish, or I hate-read to the very last page.
Note: These are all highly acclaimed books with thousands of 5-star reviews, celebrity recommendations, and media accolades, so I think these authors will be okay. Also I have no photos of the books because I’ve destroyed* them all. (*Donated)
