I love, love, love when you write about and are specific with your food freedom! I know that I could eat exactly as you do and have a different effect on my body, but it also gives me ideas and understanding. Thank you!

I’m also curious what you think about bar code scanning apps like Yuka that itemize foods in red/yellow/green based on their ingredients. Many of my go-to Whole30 basics like Chomps, Nutpods and even unsweetened canned coconut milk fall in the red category. I don’t use the app myself but my sister-in-law raided my pantry with it and declared my of my favorite foods ‘bad!’

I think anytime you are relying on somebody else’s highly specific criteria to tell you whether a food is health promoting for YOU, you’re gonna run into problems. That app in particular is based out of Europe, and they have some strange and mystifying classifications, as far as I’m concerned. As an example, they seem to want everyone to eat an incredibly low sodium diet, which is not necessary for all, and is certainly not health-promoting for me.

I think it’s better to educate yourself as to label reading and what works best for you (the Whole30 is great for that), and make your own determinations. An app is NEVER going to be better qualified to tell you what’s best for you.

It is so interesting what different bodies prefer! I have found that peanuts and peanut butter are just NOT GOOD for me and almond butter works much better. Also, I might be having an issue with eggs? I made egg salad the other day and whoa, that did not agree with me, which surprised me, and could be due to a number of other factors, so I’ll have to experiment. What I do find is that eggs make me poop, and I haven’t determined whether that’s the best thing or not. As a chronically constipated person, more poop does usually tend to be better for ME. Also, since I’m naturally lactose intolerant, since birth, removing dairy altogether from my life is in my best interest. This whole 30 has hammered that home for me. Lactaid pills or not, dairy just doesn’t benefit me in the long or short run.

All of these are excellent learnings! Eggs don’t work well for me if I eat too many, and since I have found so many other breakfast foods that give me even better energy and more protein, they’re just not my go to anymore. But I do love them for the occasional breakfast for dinner, and if I go out to eat, that’s usually what I’m getting for breakfast.

Eggs over easy with link sausage, or better still crispy around the edges SCRAPPLE (people have feelings about scrapple). Mmmmm. That’s what I had the day before whole 30 started, with brioche French toast and a metric ton of straight sugar on top.
