Another thing I’m doing is voting AS SOON AS I CAN. I know where I stand, I’m looking forward to getting that off my plate and tuning everything else out until the polls close.
I acknowledge this isn’t for everyone, but weirdly my self care around election season is to be MORE involved. Now, I totally agree on not doom-scrolling social media. However, what I’ve done is engaged locally. I have met the candidates for our state senate running in the party I’m affiliated with. I volunteer for them and for my local party. I make donations where I’m able. For me, doing those things actually gives me more of a sense of control and less hopelessness.
I LOVE THIS (and the way Kris framed it--she's 100% right). I've found engaging locally to feel good, because I'm helping to create the community I want to live in.
I cut social media entirely in 2021, a combination of election and covid conspiracy fatigue, and honestly needing to not see all of the parents bragging on FB when my eldest was struggling mightily. My mental health demanded it and I didn’t miss it. I now have only an instagram account where I follow: my kids, wellness sites, a few comedians, home decor, and puppies. That’s it. The puppy algorithm is REAL, I swear I am introduced to a new dog every day, and it’s perfect ❤️
I absolutely love this for you, and there are many days where I'd do the exact same thing if I could. (Since I can't, not completely, those are the days when I just don't post, don't share, and take the day "off." I do that regularly!)
I’m organizing a family reunion for November 2nd and my extended family is politically conservative. I was thinking of putting up No Politics Zone signs around the pavilion (it’s going to be at the state park) but I think those might backfire. Glad to have the boundaries refresher scripts!
I love that. I've also seen people buy a few air horns and leave them around the event space. When someone brings up an off-limits topic, they get blasted. The very idea makes me chuckle.
I am so bringing air horns with me to see my parents next month! Brilliant. They have respected my boundaries around politics but not so much with my niece (she’s 24) and lives close to them.

ME TOO. I will be voting by mail and getting this historic act DONE!

You’re being pro-active instead of reactive and that is keeping you from feeling powerless. Go you!

I believe more Henry is what we all need during this time!
